Quit Date: January 10, 2008

Foreverdone’s smoking history.

When we asked Foreverdone about her smoking history she told us a pretty straightforward story. She started smoking to fit in and feel cool with all of her friends at school at the age of 13. For the next 43 years she was a pack and a half a day smoker. She honestly believed that smoking was just a bad habit that she was dealing with and didn’t give to much thought to quitting for most of her years smoking.

As smoking awareness increased and the negative impacts of smoking on health became public knowledge, Foreverdone decided to give quitting a try. 15 years later and with several quit attempts under her belt, her longest lasting two years(!) she finally kicked the habit and has been smoke free and enjoying her new lifestyle for nearly 11 months now!

What motivated you to quit this last time?

After a previous quit attempt of 2 years, Foreverdone knew a lot of the benefits and how healthy she could feel as an ex-smoker. When she took her first puff after two years of freedom, she tells us that it didn’t take long before she was back to her old habit. Smoking heavily took a toll on Foreverdone, leaving her feeling drained and tired all the time. Her life started to revolve around smoking again.

One day she realized that she had tow beautiful grandchildren who deserved to breathe fresh air when they were playing with their grandma. She wanted to be around to spend as much fun and quality time with them as possible and smoking didn’t fit into this plan. She decided to change her life again and quit smoking for good.

What was different about this final quit?

Foreverdone tells us that there were a few factors that were different to this final quit. Firstly, she used Champix which helped to diminish the withdrawal symptoms. This made the beginning part of her quit comfortable and easy. She also found the SHO site by accident while surfing the web. By reading and doing the exercises, she learned that she was ADDICTED to one of the most powerful drugs available. With this new knowledge and all of the support from SHO and its members, she knew that this was her time. The SHO site and community were the missing pieces of the puzzle and she will forever be grateful for them.

What did you use or what techniques did you use to resist cravings?

To help her through this quit, Foreverdone hails Champix as a miracle drug.  She didn’t have any cravings throughout the beginning of her quit. She always kept her hands and mind busy by doing puzzles and logging in to SHO at every opportunity. “Reading and participating in discussions, thinking positive and believing in myself and pledging everyday was a big motivator for me and still is,” she tells us.

Did you have any major slips? And if you did, what did you learn?

When we asked Foreverdone if she had any slips she proudly tells us that she didn’t have any! NOPE!

Do you have insight or advice for others?

We’ll let Foreverdone take over from here. When we asked her if she had any advice or insight for other members here’s what she told us:
“My advice to anyone who wants to become smoke free would be to learn about this addiction. Get a plan in place for yourself. Know that this is a journey that is well worth the travel, take your time, be kind to yourself and learn as you go. Come to this site for information and support and you’re sure to wind up with a winning recipe for success!”
